Rihanna launched her latest album release on Wednesday (September 26) with the first single, "Diamonds." The track, produced by longtime Rih Rih collaborators Stargate, is a slow-churning pop tune with a tempo that matches its sentiment.

The song opens with Rihanna declaring, "Find light in the beautiful sea/ I chose to be happy/ You and I, you and I/ We're like diamonds in the sky." The beat is ever-present as Rihanna sings about her special boy. On the chorus, she muses, "So shine bright tonight, you and I/ We're beautiful like diamonds in the sky/ Eye to eye, so alive/ We're beautiful like diamonds in the sky."

As the song progresses, Rihanna flexes a bit of her vocal muscle when she repeats the latter half of the chorus, "Shine bright like a diamond/We're beautiful like diamonds in the sky," before the beat kicks back in.

It's not the first time that Rihanna has sung about love and diamonds on the same track. She pondered the existence of both on last year's inescapable Talk That Talk hit, "We Found Love."

"It gives me such a great feeling when I listen to it," she told Las Vegas radio host Elvis Duran over the weekend at the iHeartRadio festival. "The lyrics are very hopeful and positive, but it's about love, and the gears are a little different from what people would expect. I'm excited to surprise them sonically."

She added that she thinks the song sounds "laid back" and "hopeful," continuing that it is a "happy and hippy record." She's worked with Stargate on a number of previous hits, including "Don't Stop the Music," "Rude Boy" and "Only Girl (In the World)." The artwork for the song plays into Rihanna's edgier side. In it, all you see are hands, presumably Rihanna's, wrapping diamonds in rolling paper.

The song is the lead single off her next album, which reportedly will drop in November. Rumor has it, her seventh studio album just might be called 7 Wonders. While has yet to confirm an album release date or title, it seems that diamonds will be a common theme, as it is also the name of her 2013 world tour.
